バイオディバーシティシリーズで紹介した以下の論文と対立する結果が，Hox 遺伝子の発現パターンから得られている．つまり，ウミグモの鋏肢が前大脳に支配される付属肢であるという見方が否定され，鋏肢は実際には中大脳に支配されるとする見方が支持される．
