Abstract
We critically review the phylogenetic hypothesis of holometabolan relationships based on 18S rDNA sequence data by Whiting (2002) and its discussion by Haszprunar (2004). We point out the problem of publishing weakly supported hypotheses, which often subsequently are cited as more or less well corroborated relationships and, as such, are taken for the generally accepted view.
